The Crossing

Book Description
Imprisoned by memories, Claudia Campbell lives each day in the shadow of a ten-year-old murder. Who can set her free?
On the way home from a football game, a decade earlier, a masked gunman opened fire on a Texas school bus.  Cheer leading coach B.J. Remington was killed, but her murderer was never found. Claudia, who had a close friendship with the young, spirited teacher, constantly relives the anguish of that day, caught in one moment in time. When her husband, the assistant district attorney, becomes determined to uncover the mystery of that tragedy, the secrets buried over the years threaten to tear their family apart.
Officer Casio Hightower will never forget the day his dreams were destroyed. A star quarterback with a promising future, Casio was on top of the world—until one bullet changed everything. He is eager to help Victor Campbell find B.J.’s killer, the man who shot him. Maybe solving the case will help silence the demons driving Casio to hurt the woman he loves.
As the Campbells and Casio teeter on the brink of losing everything, will they be able to discover that what begins at the crossing ends at the cross?

My Review
The Crossing is a wonderful Christian fiction mystery. I absolutely loved this book because I just couldn't stop reading! I was captivated by Serita Jakes novel from the moment I picked up the book.
Ten years prior to the present day, a gunman boarded the high school bus at a railroad crossing and killed the cheer leading coach BJ. Claudia Campbell was with BJ til the moment she died and has panic attacks from the memories. Her husband, Victor, is the assistant DA for the small town in Texas. He reopens the case to try to find the man who murdered his wife's best friend.
Casio was the star football player on the high school team, he was also shot in the arm by the gunman but the wound wasn't fatal. He joins Victor to solve the case to find the man who ruined his career as a football player.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery!

A River To Cross

Book Description
Texas Ranger Jake Nelson patrols the U.S.-Mexico border, protecting the settlers from cattle rustlers, outlaws, and bandits. Sparks fly when Manuel Diego stirs up a revolt against the government, which leads to the murder of a newspaperman, who is the son of a U.S. senator, and the kidnapping of his sister, Elizabeth Madison, a journalist in the making.
With Elizabeth's photograph in hand--a dark-haired beauty with smiling eyes--Jake rides over the border to find her. After the Rangers defeat the marauders and rescue Elizabeth, Jake is surprised to learn she's not the spoiled daughter of a senator that he was expecting. In fact, he finds himself taken by her. And she by him.
But the Mexicans won't give up that easily, as Elizabeth becomes the target of an all-out hunt. Leaving Elizabeth back at Fort Williams, Jake and his men set off again, this time to go after Diego himself--to apprehend him and his renegades and bring them all to justice.
Meanwhile, Jake knows what's begun between him and Elizabeth is undeniable. Amid all the turmoil, Jake finally admits how much he loves her. She tells him the same. Until now, they've lived in different worlds, yet it is those differences that drew them together.

My Description
A River to Cross by Yvonne Harris is a novel that takes place in the Rio Grande- Texas in the year 1886. Elizabeth Evans is a journalist for her brothers paper during the war between America and Mexico. During a town meeting she sees her brother shot and killed by the Mexican general, Manuel Diego who kidnaps her and takes her to Mexico. A Texas Ranger named Jake Nelson and his posse track the Mexicans down and save Elizabeth. This starts a hunt by Diego to find Elizabeth and murder her.
This book is a face paced western Christian fiction. I found it quite intriguing and thoroughly enjoyed the book! I would recommend this book to anyone that loves a good western romance!

Life of a Army Wife

Sorry everyone I haven't blogged about my US Army life lately! I have been procrastinating a lot!
Michael started basic combat training (BCT) July 6th and graduated on September 15th. He was in the 193rd infantry, 2nd battalion 13th infantry, Bravo company, 4th platoon. In the course of that time he was gone, I talked to him a total of two time for a minute and a half each time. I sent him a letter every night telling him about my day and he would send me a letter almost every day telling me what he had been up to. My only survival was his letters and a Facebook page of his 2-13th infantry. The wonderful volunteers on the page would post pictures of the latest drill the soldiers in training (SIT) had done. I saw Michael in 4 pictures out of the 500 they posted, but it still made me happy to see him!
On September 10th, my sister-in-law, Morgan, and I left North Platte, NE to travel to Columbia, SC. It is a 24 hour drive from here to there! We had lots of fun! One of the places we stopped on the trip was a little town called Shelby, NE so I thought that was pretty awesome! :) September 14th was family day for the soldiers, where the families of the SITs came and the hung out on base with their soldier. I was so excited the morning of family day that I could hardly sleep the night before lol! The only thing I wasn't too happy about on family day was Michael and I couldn't hold hands or hug each other whenever we wanted too when he was in his ACU (which was all the time!). Graduation day was so awesome! Before the SITs walked out to the field where they would the ceremony would take place, they threw green and white smoke grenades! It was pretty cool looking! Right after the graduation, we left the base and went to Bojangles. Michael was so excited to eat fast food again! He was glad to be out of BCT!
Friday the 16th, we left for Ft Lee, VA  to take him to his advanced individual training (AIT) location, That was a 7 hour drive, but hardly seemed like that long since we were talking the whole time! He was able to get a weekend pass off base so it was really nice to get to relax the whole weekend! Sunday night at 5 I had to take him back to the base to check in. That was a pretty sad night for me! :( I drove from VA back to NE by myself... it was kinda a fun trip! Scary at time, but fun! I only got lost once the whole trip!
Michael's AIT has two locations: Ft Lee, Va and Eglin AFB, FL. He started his AIT classes Tuesday the 27th and will be in Ft Lee for 8 to 9 weeks. I won't be able to move with him until he goes to Eglin, so I have been dissappoionted about that the last 2 weeks. He gets to have his cell phone everyday after his classes, that has been a lifesaver for both of us!
Well that is all for now! I will definately keep you updated on how things are going for both of us!

Thunder Dog Book Review

I was given the opportunity by BookSneeze to review Thunder Dog. It's a true story about a Guide Dog that helped guide his person to safety from one of the towers in the attacks on 9/11. I chose to review this book because I used to raise Guide Dogs for the Blind puppies and I thought it would be wonderful to read about a true story of a Guide Dog.

Book Description:
It was 12:30 a.m. on 9/11 and Roselle whimpered at Michael's bedside. A thunderstorm was headed east, and she could sense the distant rumbles while her owners slept. As a trained guide dog, when she was "on the clock" nothing could faze her. But that morning, without her harness, she was free to be scared, and she nudged Michael's hand with her wet nose as it draped over the bedside toward the floor. She needed him to wake up.

With a busy day of meetings and an important presentation ahead, Michael slumped out of bed, headed to his home office, and started chipping away at his daunting workload. Roselle, shivering, took her normal spot at his feet and rode out the storm while he typed. By all indications it was going to be a normal day. A busy day, but normal nonetheless. Until they went into the office.

In Thunder Dog, follow Michael and his guide dog, Roselle, as their lives are changed forever by two explosions and 1,463 stairs. When the first plane struck Tower One, an enormous boom, frightening sounds, and muffled voices swept through Michael's office while shards of glass and burning scraps of paper fell outside the windows.

But in this harrowing story of trust and courage, discover how blindness and a bond between dog and man saved lives and brought hope during one of America's darkest days.

I loved this book!! I would recommend Thunder Dog to anyone to loves true stories and animals! It was heart-warming and very inspirational. I would rate this book a 5 star book!

To Win Her Heart Book Review

This book is a heart warming story about a man and girl trying to find a place to fit in in this world. The story is set back in 1887 Spencer, TX.

The man, Levi, has been trained in his father's profession, a blacksmith, but before he found Christ he loved to fight. His fighting found him a place in prison. After prison he finds himself working as a blacksmith in the town of Spencer. He is attracted to Eden, the town's librarian.

Eden has vowed to herself she will not fall for a man for awhile since her previous relationship with one left her without reason. All she wants is to run her library in peace, but when she meets Levi, she can't help but fall in love with this man.

The story of these two people will have you laughing and on the edge of your seat at all times. I enjoyed this book and would recommend this book to anyone that loves Christian fiction romance.

Canary List Book Review

Description
When false accusations rip apart the life of school teacher Crockett Gray, his only hope of redemption and of reclaiming his son is finding out who has targeted one of his elementary students, twelve-year-old Jaimie Gregg, for death. But the truth behind her gift and her abandonment as a baby is a secret that lies at the heart of centuries-old witchcraft conspiracy hidden within the Vatican - a secret on the verge of destroying Christianity for believers all across the world.
My Review
Twelve year old Jaimie only has one person she can go to with her problems, her teacher. She can see things that are dark, and she runs from them. Crockett, Mr G. as Jaimie calls him, only has one thing on his mind, to spend the anniversary of his daughter's death by himself and by doing so getting himself drunk. Events that happen sends Crockett's and Jaimie's life into carnage. To get his life back, Crockett has to find out about Jaimie's life.
This book is a suspenseful fast paced fiction. This book is a sequel to "The Vatican". Sigmund Brouwer is an exceptional writer and I would recommend any of his books to anyone that loves Christian fiction.

I received a paperback copy of “The Canary List” from WaterBrook Multnomah publishing in exchange for my review.

A Vision of Lucy Book Review

Description

Trouble may follow Lucy wherever she goes, but with the help of God and the rugged, reclusive David Wolf, she’ll never face adversity alone.

Lucy Fairbanks dreams of working as a photographer at the Rocky Creek newspaper. If she can earn money making photographs, then maybe her father will see that what she does is worthy, more than just a distraction. And her deepest hope is that he’ll see her as an artist, the way he thought of her deceased mother, a painter. But trouble follows Lucy on every photo shoot: a mess of petticoats and ribbons, an accidental shooting, even a fire.

When Lucy meets David Wolf, a quiet, rustic man who lives on the outskirts of town, she thinks she can catch the attention of the town with his photograph. She doesn’t count on her feelings stirring whenever she’s near him.

Two things happen next that forever change the course of her life: Lucy meets someone who sees her as no one else has—as the compassionate, creative young woman that God made in His image. And Lucy helps David uncover a secret that forces him to change his perspective on an event that left him deeply-scarred.
God’s arms are around this unlikely couple as they discover the truth about long-held assumptions and the importance of forgiveness.

My Review

This story is about a young woman, Lucy, who dreams of being a successful photographer for her hometown newspaper. Her whole life changes when a man, David, who came back to Rocky Creek to face his fears of what happened when he was a young boy.

Lucy is a strong-willed young lady who wants to make it on her own without the help of others. She has a father who disapproves of her. She tries everything she can to make him happy and love her. Her brother wants to become a doctor and she has been trying to find work as a photographer to put money aside for his schooling.

David has some unsettled business from his past he comes back to town to finish. He wanted to settle his business quietly then return home to his professional of cabinet making. He has held on to things for too long, and that almost ruins Lucy and David's relationship.
These two lives become intertwined when Lucy stops a wagon from being robbed and has feelings of love and hate at first sight! David finds Lucy a nuisance for awhile until he realizes he has actually fallen for her.

This book was fun, exciting, and romantic all at the same time. Margaret Brownley has a writing style that is easy to read and makes you want to read more of her stories.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Christian historical romance!

I received a digital copy of “A Vision of Lucy” from Thomas Nelson’s publishing in exchange for my review.

Five Question Friday!!!

Ok so I am going to try to do 5QF every Friday. I have only done one since I started my blog... so I need to do some more. I have Amber (Lisa's daughter) over and Michael just got home so today has been a really good Friday! Now the questions!!

1. If you had to choose, which would you prefer to spend money on... landscape or a pool?

I would definitely prefer a pool with this nice weather we have been having! I would like a nice in-ground pool with the deep end to be 12ft! On our anniversary Michael was teaching me to swim, but now that we aren't around a pool I can't practice!

2. Death penalty, yay or nay?

It would, of course, depend on the situation, but yay. Sometime I wish our judicial system could revert back to the 1800s when you killed someone you were hanged, but then they killed allot of innocent people. So there again, it would definitely depend on the situation.

3. What's the worse thing your kid has gotten into when you turned your back/blogged/showered/blinked.

Well since Michael hasn't let me have a kid yet, I wouldn't know, but I am dreading the day when our future kids to dreaded things!!

4. How often do you REALLY go to the dentist?

I used to go every 6 months when I was on my parents insurance, but now since we got married I have only been to the dentist once... I actually don't mind going to the dentist. It's almost relaxing for me. The only thing I dread about dentists are shots, but even those aren't too bad.

5. What is your favorite animal (doesn't have to be pet-type animal)?

Hmm that one is a hard question for me. I love all sorts of animals (ask anyone and I've had almost every type!), but I think my favorite is a toss up between horses and dogs. I currently don't own a horse, but back on my parents ranch we at 8 at one time. Riding in the mountains is the most awesome thing to do! Dogs are always there for you and aren't critical of anything. Training dogs is also a hobby of mine, and that's another fun thing about dogs; yes you can teach old dogs new tricks!!

Nick of Time Review

I received Nick of Time in eBook format. This book was an intense page turner. When I started reading this book I did not expect to learn so much about bugs! One of the reasons I enjoyed this book is because just when you think you know what is going on the author adds another little twist! The story starts out when this couple enters a wedding planners office called "Wedding 'n' Such: Everything you need to make your special day unforgettable." The couple (Nick and Alena) are planning on getting married in a few months! The groom's profession is forensic entomologist (pretty much it means he can look at the bugs on or around the corpse and be able to tell how long the body had been dead) and the bride's profession is training cadaver dogs! Only days before the wedding Nick gets a call from his forensic bug buddy saying he needs help on a case. Alena, however, doesn't hear from him for three days and on the eve of their wedding takes her dogs and goes looking for him. Nick of Time is definitely a must read!

I received this book for free from Book Sneeze for this review. I did not receive any other compensation for this book.

Lilies in Moonlight Book Review

I loved this book! It had really neat characters in the story. My favorite character was the heroine, Lily Margolis. She is my favorite because in some ways, she is like me. In the beginning of the book, she sells cosmetics called Dalliance Cosmetics and I sell Mary Kay! She hasn’t been the perfect Christian and I definitely haven’t been a picture perfect Christian either! I can relate to Lily’s whole “love” situation in the story, not knowing if the man you love loves you back. She had “a thing” for Cullen Burnside the whole book, and he for her, but he wouldn’t show it. I would recommend this book to anyone! Lilies in Moonlight is a good, uplifting Christian romance.

Scrapbookin' Time!!

So one of my favorite things to do it scrapbook! Lisa McClanahan (my mother-in-law) gave me a Cricut for Christmas and every since then I have been scrapbooking!! I am working on my 2nd and 3rd scrapbooks. My first one was a 8x8 wedding scrapbooking I made for my sister. My second and third scrapbooks are our wedding and an Army book. I will attached some pictures of my favorite pages I have done. Using a Cricut is the funnest way to scrapbook. It can cut out anything! I only have three Cricut fonts (Four-Legged Friends, Cursive 101, and George & Basic Shapes), but Lisa has almost all of the fonts :). So if I want to cut out something I just text Lisa and ask if I could borrow one of hers! I don't know what I'm going to do when we move, I won't be able to borrow any fonts!! Anyways, I just wanted to share some pages I have made!

Mary Kay's Miracle Set

As you know, I am a Mary Kay beauty consultant. I am going to say a few things about our "Timewise Miracle Set" and then have a giveaway! All Mary Kay that have Timewise in the name are all anti-aging. There are two formulas for the Miracle Set: Normal/Dry and Combination/Oily. There are four products in your Miracle Set; a cleanser, moisturizer, day solution, and night solution. Using the Miracle set will make your skin look younger and we all want that!!
  • The cleanser has gentle cleansing beads and removes dead skin cells through exfoliation. A patented complex in your cleanser reduces fine lines and wrinkles by accelerating the skin’s natural renewal process.
  • The moisturizer also has a patented complex that reduces fine lines and wrinkles by accelerating the skin’s natural renewal process. The blend in your moisturizer keeps your skin moist. This product is also non-comedogenic which means it won’t clog your pores. Some people with acne say that their skin is too oily and that they don't need to moisturize, but the reason their skin produces so much oil is from the lack of moisture so the skin overproduces oil, causing acne.
  • The main thing that ages our skin is the sun. Even if you don't sunbathe or tan, just the little bit of sun you get from walking from your car to your house, ages our skin. Therefore, the day solution has an SPF of 25. Nourishing botanicals in the day solution help energize the skin’s cells, while UVA and UVB sunscreens help protect the skin from sun damage.
  • The night solution you, of course, use at night! An anti-aging peptide the solution stimulates collagen to smooth and firm the skin. Because the night solution tightens and firms your skin, you put it on at night so that your skin doesn’t tight during the day.
To get your "Miracle" of youthful looking skin, you would use these products morning and night. In the morning you would use your cleanser, day solution, and moisturizer. At night you would use your cleanser, night solution, and moisturizer.

Now that we have covered how the miracle set works we will have a drawing! To enter you will need to answer a few questions about the Miracle Set and follow my blog!
  1. How many products are in the Miracle Set?
  2. How many times a day do use your Miracle Set?
  3. What are the two formulas for the Miracle Set?
  4. What will the Miracle Set do to your skin?
  5. Follow me on my blog!
The prize will be 3 samples of some Mary Kay perfumes for 2 people!! Good luck to all!!

First Blog!

So this is my first blog! I will tell you a little about myself. I have been married for almost a year and I absolutely love my man, Michael! We don't have any children yet unfortunately :)! I am an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay and I love seeing people get excited about the products they try! I also give piano lessons and currently have 9 students! Other than my Mary Kay business and piano lessons, I do not work outside our home. Michael works at the airport here in town as a line man refueling airplanes and such stuff. He joined the Army and will be going to basic July 5th. I am excited for him, but at the same time sad that he will be gone allot of the time. He will be an EOD (explosive ordnance disposal (bomb squad)) guy after he is finished with all his training. So that's pretty much sums up my life in a paragraph! I will try to be efficient on doing a blog at least once a week LOL!
